The Republican Women of Southwest Louisiana hosted its first social of the year at Bodega Wine Dive. Thank you to Larry Thomas and his staff for educating us on a variety of different wines and allowing us to try some of the the amazing food selections!

February 2018 Luncheon

The Republican Women of Southwest Louisiana were honored to have Congressman Clay Higgins, as our February guest speaker. Congressman Higgins discussed the difficult challenges that our nation is facing today and the impact he has made while in office. The Sam Houston High School Teenage Republicans also presented what they have accomplished throughout the year. They worked hard to raise $1,000 for the Pillow for Troops Project. The Republican Women of Southwest Louisiana were honored to have Jim Donelon, Louisiana Commissioner of Insurance, as our November guest speaker. Jim talked about the difficult challenges that the world of insurance is facing and how his office is preparing Louisiana for future success. "Falling in Love with Republican Women"

The Republican Women of Southwest Louisiana hosted it's first "Falling in Love with Republican Women" event on November 5, 2017. We had an amazing time falling in love with our club all over again. It was a great opportunity for new perspective members to check us out and meet our wonderful group of ladies. John discussed the issues that Lake Charles is currently facing and the path forward the city council has for the future. The Republican Women of Southwest Louisiana were honored to have Angele Davis, candidate for Louisiana State Treasurer and Karl Bruchhaus, Calcasieu Parish School Board Superintendent as our August guest speakers. Superintendent Bruchhaus provided valuable information on the issues facing today's school system and the steps his administration is taking to bring effective solutions. Angele Davis discussed some of the major financial issues facing our state and what qualifies her to bring change. This month we also awarded the Marie Key Martin Scholarship to both Savannah Andrews and Harleigh Smith. The winner of the 2016 Marie Key-Martin scholarship is Lindsey Thompson. The Scholarship is a onetime payment of $500 awarded to a high school, senior girl. The candidate must be nominated by a member in good standing in the RWSWLA. Lindsey is a 2016 graduate of Sam Houston High School.
